Reliability figures with a sample size
A failure rate quoted without the number of units behind it says almost nothing. Twelve machines running for a year and twelve hundred produce very different confidence, and the difference matters most for a new model. Stating the sample alongside the figure is the minimum honest presentation, and it is rare enough to be a differentiator.
Replaceable modules: less time stopped
Repairing on site means diagnosing, sourcing the part and coming back. Swapping the whole module turns that sequence into a single visit: the machine is back in service the same day and the detailed repair happens in the workshop. Across a fleet with many locations, that difference accounts for most of the downtime accumulated over a year. It is one of the questions branches ask us most often: figures behind the datasheet.
Letting the field data change the product
Collecting failure data is the easy half. Acting on it means accepting that a design decision was wrong, retooling and absorbing the cost. The reader mounting we redesigned in our second model line was a straightforward case: the numbers were unambiguous by the eighteenth month, and no amount of servicing was going to fix a mechanical stress problem.
